POINTING US BEYOND

Ludmilla's artwork invites us to examine ourselves in light of Christ's cross.

How is it that looking at a picture can recall memories, emotions, or cause us to reflect upon our life? The Christian response is tied to our connection to God--the creator and sustainer of all. Because we are created in His image and, although tainted by sin, we still recognize that there is beauty and meaning behind what we behold. Thus, artists craft images that call us to both reflect on ourselves but point us beyond.

Icons are no different. The early Church has employed icons since its very beginning; often using symbols to both convey doctrine and distinguish friend from foe. Throughout history, the scope of iconography has grown to teach the faith through symbols and portraits. Now, Ludmilla's modern iconography calls us once again to reflect upon ourselves and point us to our Savior.
