Immanuel Elementary School

Serving Riverside since 1957

Principal's welcome

Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran School! Our 5-acre campus is located in the distinguished Victoria Neighborhood of Riverside, California.  Our school provides a safe, student-centered, Christ-filled learning and play environment.  We strive for  FAITHFULNESS . Immanuel is part of the NLSA, the largest Protestant school system in the country.  Our students learn more than just Bible stories -- they learn what it means to live in Christian community. We also strive for EXCELLENCE. Our teachers utilize a robust curriculum in the classroom and incorporate focused homework to reinforce learning. Each student engages in MAP testing three times per year so that we can track their academic progress. Perhaps the greatest thing about Immanuel, however, is that when your student becomes a Roadrunner, your whole family becomes part of tight-knit community.  We would love to have you be a part of our Roadrunner Family!  -- Rev. Dr. Steven B. Borst

Our Educational
philosophy

The roadrunner three

We believe that parents are the first and most influential teachers in a child's life. Immanuel's role is to partner with you by providing educational excellence and a faith-filled, caring environment. Working together, we can lay a solid foundation for your child that will serve them for the rest of their life.
Being a Roadrunner is more than excelling in the classroom -- it's a way of life. Our community lives by the values of our Roadrunner Three: (1) Be Responsible, (2) Be Respectful, (3) Be Kind -- Serve Jesus!

We are twice accredited!

Our Elementary School proudly holds accreditation
with the following two accrediting commissions:

Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)  www.acswasc.org
National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) luthed.org/nlsa/

Immanuel received a 6-year accreditation in our last cycle!
This is the  highest and longest accreditation cycle offered by  WASC and it signifies that we have  successfully demonstrated high-quality student learning and ongoing school improvement .

Striving for Excellence

Small Classes

With limited registration  and smaller class sizes, we create a caring environment where teachers effectively get to know each student to better serves their educational needs.  We are able to support students who are struggling or excelling in a particular subject to facilitate continued growth and success.

Technology

We are thrilled to offer 70 minutes of computer instruction each week to all K-6 students to promote digital literacy. Mrs. Hilary Guizlo instructs our students in   our computer lab, while in the classroom, we offer one-on-one Chromebooks to utilize during the school day.  We follow a comprehensive technology plan which includes our students showing mastery in  Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals.

MAP Testing

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a series of computer-adaptive assessments to measure student achievement and growth over time in core subjects. Our students are tested three times each year to better help  identify their specific strengths and growth areas. This helps us to personalize instruction and provide targeted support throughout the school year.

Performing Arts

All classes participate in high-level music lessons by our Worship Arts Director, Dr. Elvin Rodriguez.. Older grades begin to learn music theory by using musical instruments (recorders, chimes, and handbells).  During the year, classes sing and perform in chapel, special evening services, and Sunday worship.

Physical Eduction

Our PE classes are designed to introduce or advance students' knowledge of health, fitness training and good  sportsmanship. Led by our PE teacher, Mrs. Ange Jones, children practice Christian behavior through team building activities. Our program is designed to teach age-appropriate skills and encourage lifelong health.

Visual Arts

Students spend time creating and learning various art techniques.  They explore  the Masters, as well as work with different mediums. Students display their work in our annual Student Showcase. Winners are able to exhibit their art at the Riverside Art Museum each Spring.

By Grace Through Faith Alone

A Place of faith and worship

Immanuel is part of the Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod (LCMS), a Bible-based, Protestant denomination. Along with daily Bible instruction, our students learn what it means to live out their faith in Christian community. We gather for weekly chapel, celebrate together in special worship services. and support various mission projects. We take Jesus' words seriously: "As I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
