June 6, 2021 – Sufficient Grace: Comfort in Christ -2 Corinthians 1:1-11
This is Paul’s 4th Letter to the Corinthians. He hopes to visit them soon, and defends his ministry against false prophets. Paul begins with a word of comfort. Despite sharing in Christ’s suffering on behalf of the Gospel, they are also comforted by Grace. We have been delivered! Delivered from sin and death, as well as delivered through life’s trials.
June 13, 2021 – Sufficient Grace: Yes in Christ – 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11
Paul wants to Corinth to know that he is not wavering in visiting them. Rather, he refrains for the moment out of care for them. His previous visit was painful, for he chastised them. We are reminded that in Christ, all of God’s promises are Yes! God does not vacillate in His promises to us – they have all been fulfilled in Christ. Paul encourages forgiveness for those who have erred in the past, so that the fellowship will not be destroyed. The “Yes” of God’s sufficient grace applies to them also.
