During the summer of 2017, Immanuel began implementing our new vision. 30 members joined us for that first meeting, as we unpacked what our vision means and organized our work around 6 Core Ministry Teams. In the two years that have passed, many more members have stepped forward to help. Although we have yet to accomplish all that God is calling us to be and do, we have borne much fruit through the working of the Spirit!
Throughout this journey, we are experiencing the exhortation of Colossians 1:10, “Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” The activity of our Vision 2025 Core Ministry Teams is not just congregational busy work, but a striving that invests in the people of God and the expanse of His Kingdom.
Here is just a sample of how far we’ve come:
DISCIPLESHIP– we’ve created a new youth room and implemented a new Bible study for teens.
HOSPITALITY– we’re making our Sunday morning more inviting with a doughnut/coffee reception, as well as gifts for first-time visitors.
OUTWARD FOCUS– we continue to serve our own community by feeding homeless veterans and mentoring foster youth, as well as a number of other outreach initiatives.
WORSHIP ARTS– we celebrated the 500thanniversary of the Reformation with a standing room only service filled with orchestra, choir, and local clergy. Our art installation was a highlight for our sanctuary for the year that followed.
CENTER FOR CHRISTIAN FAITH– we’ve held numerous workshops to grapple theologically with topics such as Faith & Technology and those who call themselves, Skeptics: Spiritual but Not Religious.
SCHOOLS & FAMILY– we have worked hard to strengthen bridges between our church and schools through Literacy Nights and STEM Events.
This is only a small sample of our initiatives. It’s been a great beginning! There is more to do.
On September 10, we begin Year 3 of our 7-year vision. Our Core Ministry Teams will meet together from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the GPEC Fellowship Hall. It’s a time for dreaming, planning, and moving forward! Your participation is not only needed, it is greatly welcomed! We will be planning our work for the Fall, as well as laying the groundwork for a huge project for Lent 2020 (it’s a surprise, but it’s going to be big!).
The old King James Version of the Bible translates Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” As God reveals Himself to us in His Word, He brings to us His light and life. There is joy in knowing who He is, what He has done for us in Christ, and what He desires to accomplish through us His church. That’s why the modern paraphrase of the Bible, The Message, states it this way: “If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.”
Most blessed indeed are we! Please pray for, invest in, and support the work God has given us to do!
